Theresa and her loyal companion, Tilda,

in front of the Alamo, Nov. 2018.

After spending 25 years working in the financial industry, I never truly pursued art as a profession until my mother, Gloria, also a self-taught artist, was diagnosed with colon cancer in 1996. The process of looking at and creating art helped bring us closer together. After her passing in 2002, I completed two undergraduate degrees in Studio Art and Fine Art from the Univ. of Texas. Inspired by my mother in 2007  I founded the Mobile Art Program (MAP). MAP provides art activities for seniors and disabled adults, building self-esteem while creating art in group settings. My commitment to serving older adults has been recognized by multiple community partners. In 2010, I was honored to be named  ‘Outstanding Angel in the Community’ (click on link to see video) and in 2015, AGE of Central Texas presented me with the Bert Kruger Smith Vision Award, which honors a person or organization whose vision has enhanced the older adult community and who has shown foresight and energy in implementing programs, services, or legislation that serves older adults.  My husband and I live in Central Austin with two 16 year old rescued cats and one energetic rescued mutt.
